About Project

The European textile sector lives a deep crisis, due to the markets liberalization and the emergence of new Asian competitors. The regions of the partners of the present project (Catalonia (Spain), Lombardi (Italy) and South West Bohemia (Czech)) have an historical textile industry culture with a majority of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) which produce traditional goods.As in the rest of the old Europe, these long established textile companies suffer from the competition with the Asian ones. Different European commissions determined that the sector must create new innovative products with greate radded value, as the technical textiles, to leave this crisis. Majority of the present regions textile SMEs cannot have some competitive Research and Development departments, essentially for financial reasons. Following the line recommended by the several commissions, this project tries to bring knowledge and practical solutions in Smart Fabrics and Interactive Textiles (SFIT) to the European textile SMEs.
